چکیده

Percutaneous liver biopsy (PLB) is an in or out-patient procedure diffused in most hospitals. A particularely elevate number of biopsies in our area depends on endemic infection by hepatitis B and C viruses. Nowadays it is a very safe procedure, and the actual risk of bleeding is estimated to range between 0.04 and 0.16% in nonmalignant disease 1. Major bleeding generally requires a prompt surgical solution, and it has been traditionally managed by a wide laparotomy. After the initial experiences as a diagnostic and therapeutic tool in penetrating abdominal stab wounds, minimally-invasive procedures are gaining consense, even if we found only one other case report in Literature concerning bleeding after PLB managed by means of laparoscopy 2.

Near-fatal hemorrhagic shock after endoscopic ultrasound-guided liver biopsy.

Endoscopic ultrasound (EUS)-guided liver biopsy with a 19-gauge fine-needle aspiration (FNA) needle is safe and provides excellent diagnostic yield [1-4]. Post-procedural bleeding is a well-known complication of liver biopsy [5]. Although it is reasonable to assume that similar complications may arise after EUS-guided liver biopsy, no complications of this nature have been reported thus far. We...

The advantage of transjugular biopsy is that it can be performed in patients in whom the use of percutaneous biopsy is ...
